Hydrofera Blue CLASSIC® Heavy Drainage

Hydrofera Blue CLASSIC® Heavy Drainage dressings are designed with a thicker profile to manage wounds with heavy exudate.

As a thicker derivative of Hydrofera Blue CLASSIC®, the Heavy Drainage dressings are highly absorbent polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) foam dressings that wick exudate and debris into the foam and away from the wound surface.

Hydrofera Blue CLASSIC® Heavy Drainage antibacterial foam dressings are constructed with an open-celled PVA foam, effectively managing exudate to promote wound healing.

The Heavy Drainage format of the foam is 0.5-0.75 inches thick to absorb and retain moderate to high levels of wound exudate.

The porous structure uses a strong wicking action1 to draw bacteria and yeast from the wound bed, killing bacteria within the dressing and reducing bioburden. It supports gentle autolytic debridement3,5 by removing devitalized tissue and aiding in the promotion of healthy growth and safe, non-cytotoxic wound healing.4

Safe, non-cytotoxic.4 Must be hydrated before use. Use with a secondary dressing. Can be worn up to three days,1 or as clinical conditions allow.

Key Attributes of Hydrofera Blue CLASSIC® Heavy Drainage Dressings:

Clinician applying Hydrofera Blue CLASSIC Heavy Drainage dressing to a patient lower leg

Powerful Wicking and High Absorbency

Continuous wicking and retention capabilities help draw bacteria-laden exudate into the foam and away from the wound surface with ease. The strong capillary action and a powerful, continuous wicking effect ensure rapid and efficient absorption of wound exudate.

Edge Effect

Helps resolve rolled or epibole wound edges.

Maintains Moisture-Rich Environment

Helps maintain a balanced, moisture-rich environment for the wound bed, promoting epithelization (the formation of new skin tissue over the wound).

Non-Cytotoxic

The dressing is non-cytotoxic, making it safe to use. It doesn't inhibit growth factors and provides protection against a broad spectrum of bacteria commonly found in wounds.

Product Benefits

Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) Foam
  • 0.5" - 0.75" thick PVA foam

  • Continuous wicking, highly absorptive

  • Manages bioburden

  • Does not inhibit growth factors

  • No known antimicrobial resistance

  • Safe, autolytic debridement

  • Proven to kill bacteria within the dressing

  • Stable product construction

  • Can be cut to size

  • Safe, non-cytotoxic

  • 1

    Deep, tunnelling or shallow

  • 2

With or without devitalized tissue/slough and debris

  • 3

Moderate to high levels of exudate

  • 4

Infected or at risk of infection

  • 5

    Acute or chronic wounds

  • 1

    Hydrate

Hydrate with sterile saline or sterile water for approximately 60 seconds, squeezing out any excess liquid.

  • 2

    Application

For flat wounds, cut the dressing to fit the wound bed. If rolled wound edges are present, overlap the wound edge by ½ centimeter. The dressing should cover both the wound and periwound area. If the wound has depth, loosely fill the cavity, undermining, sinus tract or tunnel with the dressing.

  • 3

    Cover

Cover foam with secondary dressing, based on the exudate level, to keep the foam moist.

  • 4

    Dressing Changes

Ensure dressing changes every 3 days or more frequently if required by the physician. If the dressing retained its blue color where it had been in contact with the wound, the new dressing can be left in place for up to 3 days. If the dressing turned white or lightened in color, continue daily dressing changes until the blue color is retained.

Note:

As with many wound care dressings, moisture balance is key. If the dressing is dry, thoroughly re-moisten with sterile saline or sterile water, then gently remove the dressing. The goal is to keep Hydrofera Blue CLASSIC® dressings moist.

Hydrofera Blue CLASSIC® Heavy Drainage can be left in place for up to 3 days, depending on the condition of the wound.
